Lauren Baker Mosaics

Check out these beautiful, intricate mosaic designs by Lauren Baker.
I love that each and every single piece is unique, colourful and has a story & personality. The stunningly crafted skulls are on my 2012 wish list :)

The ethically sourced deer skulls are gilded in gold leaf and embellished in mosaic and the human cast skulls are brightly embellished, inspired by Mexican Day of the Dead.

"Each skull has a different energy and personality and is named accordingly. I try to give the deer skulls an enhanced afterlife... making them as beautiful and treasured as they ought to be. Some are lavishly adorned with 24ct gold, others have an amethyst crystal on their crown chakra, and some are gilded in gold and embellished in a flamboyant peacock-like way" - Lauren Baker.

The designs are stocked in East London boutique: 123 Bethnal Green Road and in the Christmas window display antique/ vintage boutique - Stella Blunt on Broadway Market. Skulls priced from £220.

For summer 2012, Lauren's mosaic fashion works will be released: a mosaic shoe collaboration with luxury shoe designer Joanne Stoker; and a crystal-stingray- and pearl-encrusted mosaic cape collaboration with label Velvet Johnstone.

'Mosaic shoe collaboration with luxury shoe designer Joanne Stoker.' The shoes were showcased in the world's largest fashion trade show event, MAGIC in Las Vegas and were exhibited at London Fashion Week on 16th-20th September 2011, they will go on sale in Summer 2012.

'Collaboration by luxury fashion label Velvet Johnstone and Lauren Baker. Leather cape embellished with amethyst crystal, stingray fish leather, mother of pearl and shells.'

'Duke, named by locals for his royal look and the size of his 14 point antlers, was an imperial stag. At 14 years and 24.6 stone he was the don of his highland and served many hinds over the years. He had grown to 16 points but regressed in older age. He lived in the Scottish high tops of Strathskiach estate, Rosshire Highlands and died there - the exact spot he was found is The March Burn on the spierag face. Wild deer tend to live for about 10 years, so he had a good age. Duke’s full cape will be mounted in a life size pose of him roaring so his beauty will be viewed for a long time. His skull has been gilded in gold leaf and embellished with gold and copper beads.'
